Sordo back in Hyundai's line-up for WRC Rally Mexico

Sordo back in Hyundai’s line-up for Rally Mexico

Hyundai Motorsport has confirmed its driver line-up for Guanajuato Rally México next month.

The Hyundai team bagged a double podium finish at Rally Sweden yesterday with Craig Breen in P2 and Thierry Neuville in P3.

For Guanajuato Rally México, the team confirmed that, as expected, Dani Sordo will compete in the third car alongside full-time drivers Neuville and Esapekka Lappi. Sordo shares the third car with Breen in a bid for better road positions during gravel (events).

Rally Mexico will be the first gravel rally of the season and returns to the WRC for the first time since 2020 when the event was stopped ahead of the final day amid covid-19 concerns.

Sébastien Ogier confirmed in a TV interview with French broadcaster Canal+ after his Rally Monte Carlo win that he will be present in Mexico.

With Ogier’s entry in mind, Sordo will be ninth on the road in Mexico, giving him a theoretical advantage on Friday as it’s expected that starting later will be a benefit given the road cleaning on (most) gravel events.

Rally Mexico’s entry deadline is tomorrow. The entry list is set to be published on the 23rd of February.
