Hyundai completes 2024 WRC line-up with Mikkelsen & Sordo

Hyundai Motorsport has completed its line-up for the upcoming 2024 WRC season: Dani Sordo will stay at the team while Andreas Mikkelsen returns to the Alzenau-based squad.

Dani Sordo and Andreas Mikkelsen have been officially confirmed to drive for Hyundai in next year’s 2024 WRC season.

Sordo will stay for an eleventh (consecutive) year with the team. The Spaniard joined Hyundai when the South Korean manufacturer rejoined back in 2014: “I am very happy to be staying with Hyundai Motorsport for another season to help the team achieve its objectives for 2024”, Sordo said.

Mikkelsen returns to WRC’s top level

Andreas Mikkelsen returns to Hyundai for next year. The Norwegian drove for Hyundai between 2017 and 2019 and lost his drive for the 2020 season. Since then, Mikkelsen won the WRC2 championship twice, in 2021 and 2023, earning him a new chance in the WRC.

“I am very excited to come back to the top category of rallying with Hyundai Motorsport. I want to thank them for putting their faith in us; we will give our maximum to help achieve the high targets that will be set for the 2024 season”, Mikkelsen said.

Sordo and Mikkelsen will share Hyundai’s third car with Esapekka Lappi. The Finn was confirmed to stay at the team for a part-time drive during the Rally Japan rally weekend.

Hyundai has now completed its roster for next year with Ott Tänak and Thierry Neuville who will compete a full programme and Sordo, Mikkelsen and Lappi sharing the third car.

Commenting on his drivers’ line-up, Hyundai Team Principal Cyril Abiteboul said: “The combination of EP, Dani and Andreas will give us the opportunity to put the best team forward for every event to fight alongside Thierry and Ott.

“Dani and Andreas have been selected due to their vast experience and talents on specific surfaces in the WRC, which will allow us to field our strongest line-up for each individual event.

“This will play to the strengths of the drivers: Dani on rough gravel, Andreas on tarmac, and EP on snow and fast gravel rallies.”

The 2024 WRC season starts at next month’s Rallye Monte Carlo from January 25-28.
