Tänak to miss WRC Rally Monza, Suninen stands in

Ott Tänak is forced to miss the final round of the 2021 WRC season at Rally Monza this month due to personal family matters.

Former M-Sport Ford driver Teemu Suninen will replace Ott Tänak at Rally Monza. “I am gutted to say this, but unfortunately I am not able to participate at ACI Rally Monza 2021 due to personal family matters.”, said Tänak in a statement.

The 2019 WRC champion continued: “This is a tough decision to make, but it’s a needed one.”

Suninen said in a statement: “I want to wish Ott all the best. Meanwhile, for us, this is a great opportunity. Again it’s a great challenge to get to know a new car, but we’ll definitely accept the challenge.”

Suninen joins Thierry Neuville and Dani Sordo in Hyundai’s line-up as the team still has a (small) chance to grab the Manufacturers’ title from Toyota. Toyota leads the championship by 47 points and only needs five points to win the title.

At last month’s Rally Spain, Suninen debuted for Hyundai’s WRC2 outfit in a i20 N Rally2 with 11th place overall and second in WRC2.
