Junior ERC champion Calle Carlberg will make his Rally2 debut at Vinterpokalen in Sandviken, the opening round of the Swedish Rally Championship (SM), driving a Toyota Yaris Rally2.
Following a highly successful season in Europe, Calle Carlberg returns to the Swedish forests to take on the national elite. With a fresh European title under his belt and major plans in the works, the miles covered on February 6–7 will be vital. The campaign is a joint effort with GK Door Team Sweden, which has established itself as the dominant force in Swedish rallying over recent years.
Four-wheel drive knowledge before JWRC Rally Sweden
“It’s going to be incredibly fun to compete on home soil again and, furthermore, to get such important mileage in a Rally2 car. I am eternally grateful and proud of the trust Chribbe and the entire GK Door Team Sweden have shown me with this opportunity. We are working extremely hard right now to put together a strong season in the Junior WRC, and these miles are invaluable ahead of Rally Sweden,” says Calle Carlberg.
“I have driven for many teams around Europe, including a factory effort with Opel. My feeling is that GK Door Team Sweden is at the absolute top tier in terms of running a professional team. It feels great to work with such a group of people,” Carlberg adds.
Team Principal Chribbe Haglund has been a major part of Calle’s career over the last few years, enabling much of his success. According to Haglund, having Calle officially join the team lineup will be very interesting.
“For us, it’s important to play a part in helping Calle move forward in his career. It is crucial for Calle to get experience in a four-wheel-drive car before Rally Sweden, and we saw an opportunity for a collaboration there. What happens after Sandviken and Rally Sweden remains to be seen,” comments Team Principal Chribbe Haglund.
